Designers have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits without leaving the office by joining this hour and a half presentation by Thomas M. Murray, Ph.D., P.E., Emeritus Professor at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., and author of the widely used AISC/CISC Steel Design Guide 11, Floor Vibrations Due To Human Activity (available as a PDF file and free of charge for AISC members). In his presentation Murray will address many frequently asked questions based on Design Guide 11 including how to estimate vibration loadings, damping, floor width and length, and how to handle complex framing. He’ll also discuss examples of problem floors and retrofit techniques.
