Learn: From shop drawings, the building members come to life. By looking at them in real life, one learns how to develop a sense to see 3-D models of building right from the structural drawings. Photo by Delia Radbata.
Connecting theory with reality is an important step in the overall process of design and construction. And for a steel detailer, that reality happens in the fabrication shop.
Her photograph above shows a weldment that not long before
had existed only as a detailed drawing. “As a detailer I am using Design Data’s SDS/2, and every Friday I like to go in our shop and see the things I drew coming to life.” Radbata said. “It’s a great satisfaction to see the end result of my work.”
Radbata’s photo received an Honorable Mention in the 2010 AISC Student Photo Contest. For more information on the 2010 Student Photo Contest entries, view the Steel Shots gallery by clicking here.
