The Gerdau Ameristeel Charlotte (N.C.) Mill has been recertified to ISO 14001. The standard covers a facility’s establishment and registration of an environmental management system (EMS), and its subsequent adherence to that EMS. After evaluations were carried out in all areas and processes at the Charlotte mill the auditors highlighted the understanding of the EMS by all employees.
To meet the requirements of ISO 14001, an organization must have an EMS that is able to help the company identify and control the environmental impact of its activities, products or services, continually improve its environmental performance and provide a systematic approach to setting and achieving environmental objectives and targets.
