The Champions Arch built by Gerdau Ameristeel will tower over Miami’s Ocean Drive during Super Bowl week, illuminating the sky in tribute to the region’s rich tradition of hosting Super Bowls. The Champions Arch was designed by Beilinson Gomez Architects PA, Miami, and created from steel recycled from the Orange Bowl and Dolphin Stadiums, which have hosted some of football’s greatest moments.
The steel for the art-deco inspired arch was processed and reborn at Gerdau Ameristeel’s mini-mills in Calvert City, Ky., and Midlothian, Texas. It stands 23 ft high over Ocean Drive, with massive steel beams intersecting at the center of the arch to showcase a 12-ft steel football illuminated in various NFL team colors by powerful LED lights.
